Ian Williams

Born in Newport News,VA, Ian Williams was raised in Virginia in the era that gave the world Michael Vick, Allen Iverson and Pharrell Williams. At the age of 10, Ian’s family moved just outside of Portland, OR. Ian graduated high school determined to work at the nearby Nike WHQ.

Taking a less traditional route, Ian decided he knew the things that school could teach but needed to get on campus to learn the things that it couldn’t. So he took a janitorial position just to meet people and make connections. After three years in that role, he got a shot at something more by convincing the Nike SB team to let him create a shoe. Ian’s “Wet Floor Sign” Nike Dunk became a cult classic, selling out all five thousand units. Soon after, he got promoted to footwear developer, continuing to shatter expectations and sales projections.

But his inner entrepreneurial spirit wasn’t satisfied, and he left Nike after nine years to open Deadstock Coffee. Deadstock has become the epicenter of Portland’s sneaker and streetwear community. Creating a space that would foster conversations that otherwise wouldn’t happen was Ian’s goal.
